Pokémon ORAS: Competitive Shiny Hatching Project

Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
Shiny Pokémon-Hatching Project
Welcome to the official thread for the Shiny Pokémon Hatching project I started quite a bit ago. We currently have a collection of Mega Evolutions on hand but are on hiatus until their stats are officially revealed. We will post good sets for them once the stats are released. The only new mega evolution who have their stats revealed are Latias and Latios...but some peeps already have the ORAS demo, so we know Sceptile's, Swampert's, Steelix's, and Glalie's as well! Note that these analyses are subject to change since the metagame is kinda hard to predict.
- Mega Steelix:
- The official artwork of Mega Steelix is too big. Click here to check it out!
All that glitters is not gold...except shiny Steelix. He's made of gold, and glitters when sent into battle.
Steelix has been presented a much-needed Mega Evolution that patches up its lackluster Sp. Defense. Its defense is now tied for highest in the game - along with Shuckle and Mega Aggron. Its attack has been boosted to an acceptable level and it has a handy ability in Sand Force - which increases the power of Rock, Ground, and Steel-type moves by 30% when in sand.
Steelix @ Steelixite - Sassy Nature (Sand Force. Base stats: 75/125/230/55/95/30.)
EVs: 244 HP / 12 Attack / 252 Sp. Defense
move 1: Gyro Ball
move 2: Stealth Rock / Stone Edge / Rock Slide
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Curse
Yeah...Mega Steelix is going to be crazy good. Its biggest flaw was its Special Defense stat, which has been improved to base 95 - a 30-stat increase! Curse is the main move of this set, raising attack and defense and lowering speed. As you may know, Gyro Ball is a physical move that becomes more powerful the slower the user is. If Steelix can get a few Curse boosts, Gyro Ball becomes an absolutely amazing move that destroys anything that doesn't resist it. Without any boosts at all, Tyranitar, Bisharp, Azumarill, and Heatran fall under the combination of Gyro Ball and Earthquake. Curse boosts Defense, which is uninvested, granting Mega Steelix incredible bulk. Because of its bulk, Stealth Rock is great on this set. However, Stone Edge or Rock Slide can be used in its place if you already have Stealth Rock on another teammate, providing unresisted coverage...meaning it can hit almost every Pokémon for at least neutral damage.
As far as team options go - Hippowdon or Tyranitar with the Smooth Rock are its best partners, as they set up a whole 8 turns of sandstorm for Steelix to attack in. The sandstorm does increase Steelix's attack power, but after getting boosted in attack, defense, and lowered in speed, Steelix is pretty much unstoppable. The best thing to put a stop to Steelix would probably be Quagsire - its Unaware ability ignores Steelix's stat boosts and drops. Scald can also burn and cripple it. Steelix is also weak to common attacking moves in Fighting, Fire, Ground, and Water.
- Mega Sceptile:
- Click here to see Mega Sceptile!
Selling Christmas trees starting in November 2014.
Mega Sceptile, now that its stats have been revealed, looks pretty cool. His special attack is boosted to 145, and his attack goes up to 110, making for a good mixed attacker. It also gets another 25 points in speed, outspeeding Greninja - a wonderful bragging right considering it can KO it with Giga Drain! It's also the fast-grass type that OU needs - the next fastest mon is Mega Venusaur at base 80. However, going mixed gives Sceptile 4-move-slot-syndrome: it wants to run Giga Drain, a dragon-type move, Focus Blast, Rock Slide, HP Fire, and Earthquake all at once, but it can't, unfortunately for Sceptile.
Sceptile @ Sceptilite - Timid Nature (Lightningrod. Base stats: 70/110/75/145/85/145.)
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Sp. Attack / 252 Speed
move 1: Giga Drain / Leaf Storm
move 2: Dragon Pulse / Draco Meteor
move 3: Focus Blast
move 4: Hidden Power Fire / Hidden Power Rock / Substitute
Mega Sceptile is a versatile Mega Evolution, being able to go physical, special, or mixed. Right here is a standard special attacking set - the first moveslot consists of Giga Drain and Leaf Storm. Leaf Storm is insanely strong, but Giga Drain also recovers HP, making Giga Drain the preferred option. Dragon Pulse is likely going to be the only Dragon STAB Sceptile gets, but if it gets Draco Meteor as well, that is an option. Focus Blast is absolutely necessary to beat steel-types that wall this set. Hidden Power Fire can be used to kill Scizor and Ferrothorn, but HP Rock can beat Charizard forms, Volcarona, and Talonflame. Substitute can be used to avoid damage, and is best used in conjunction with Giga Drain. Sceptile, as it stands, is Rotom-W's biggest counter, but they will very likely start running Choice Scarf + Hidden Power Ice as a result.
Sceptile can also run a physical set with a Hasty nature with Leaf Blade / Earthquake / Outrage / Swords Dance with the EVs 252 Attack / 4 Defense / 252 Speed. It can also do Rock Slide, Crunch, Thunder Punch, and even Drain Punch. Leaf Storm can also be stuck on the set, which has great special power (Leaf Storm lowers sp. atk, but since it’d be the only special move, Sceptile is not forced to switch out). However, even before this mega's base stats are revealed...I already get the feeling it's going to be a huge counter - Mega Altaria. It resists Grass, Fighting, and Fire, and is immune to Dragon thanks to its Fairy typing. Sceptile also boards the 4x-weak-to-ice train, so Thundurus with HP Ice is a good check. However, it needs to watch out for Rock Slide or HP Rock. As for teammates, a Stealth Rock setter is very helpful, as Talonflame can still deal big damage with Brave Bird. A fairy-type can be used to handle Mega Altaria...despite its fairy typing, it's still weak to Fairy. If Sceptile lacks Earthquake, a solid check / counter to Heatran will work.
- Mega Swampert:
- Click here to see Mega Swampert's design!
One awesome ability. Two good offense stats. Three great defensive stats. All awesome.
Yeah, Mega Swampert is likely going to be one of the best new Mega Evolutions in ORAS. It gets a huge attack increase, making moves like Waterfall and Earthquake that much stronger. It gets an extra twenty points in its defenses, increasing both its physical and special bulk. Its base 70 speed also ties with Ludicolo, another rain sweeper that does not Mega Evolve.
Swampert @ Swampertite - Adamant Nature (Swift Swim. Base stats: 100/150/110/95/110/70.)
EVs: 148 HP / 252 Attack / 208 Speed
move 1: Waterfall
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Ice Punch / Superpower
move 4: Stealth Rock / Rain Dance / Stone Edge
This set will probably be something like the default Mega Swampert setup. Waterfall is one of the best physical Water-type moves and has a higher accuracy than Aqua Tail, so this is a must-have. Earthquake hits electric-type Pokémon that normally threaten the team for super-effective damage. Ice Punch is used to destroy grass-types, but Superpower can be used to put a dent in Ferrothorn. Stealth Rock is great on Swampert thanks to its natural univested defenses, but it can be substituted for Rain Dance. Stone Edge can also be used to kill 4x-weak-mon on the switch.
Mega Swampert could possibly be the saviour of rain teams - there is not currently a definitive "this mon needs rain to be awesome" mega. For this reason, Politoed is a wonderful teammate, though it shares a weakness of grass with Swampert, swamp can switch in and absorb any electric-type move aimed at Politoed. Magnezone is also a good partner because of its ability to trap Ferrothorn should Swampert lack Superpower. Sceptile can do a decent job of getting rid of it - but Swampert is faster than Sceptile in the rain and it can KO the dragon with Ice Punch. Mega Venusaur, however, is an excellent check to Swampert - it can easily take it out with a Giga Drain, and its Thick Fat ability ensures it will never take super-effective damage from Ice Punch. However, it can only survive one of max investment Swampert's Earthquakes.
- Mega Glalie:
- Kinda looks like Pac-Man as an Ice-type Pokémon...
Chomping on dragons and birds since 2014.
Mega Glalie stands out as the second, and most viable, Ice-type Mega Evolution to date. While it's nothing outstanding, it does get a few factors that make it pretty good. I can see this being used in UU or being pushed to BL. Its abillity become Refrigerate, giving it a niche: +30% Ice-type Explosion. However, don't be fooled by my positive statements - the good aspects of this mega end there. It's at a bad speed tier, tying with Charizard, Gardevoir, Celebi, Medicham, and Volcarona. It's also weak to Stealth Rock.
Glalie @ Glalie's Mega Stone - Jolly Nature (Refrigerate. Base stats: 80/120/80/120/80/100.)
EVs: 252 Attack / 4 Defense / 252 Speed
move 1: Explosion
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Crunch
move 4: Return
Ice is an awful type. It's weak to Fire, Rock, Steel, and Fighting, some of the most common types. Bullet Punch and Mach Punch are there to stop Glalie as well. Because Glalie's defenses and HP are bad, this set is used as an attacking set. Basically, come in, hit stuff super-effectively, and then blow up. Glalie has the most powerful Explosion in the game, and Ghost-types aren't immune to it because it turns into an Ice-type move. Return is the same thing, but lacks the (literal) nuclear power of Explosion. Earthquake can be used for steel-types, who take Glalie's ice-type attacks pretty well - especially Heatran. Glalie's movepool is terrible, so Crunch was added.
As for teammates, anything that appreciates opposing dragons to be removed is a viable choice. Dragonite, who needs to set up via Dragon Dance, appreciates having opposing dragons removed. Pokémon that can take care of fast rock-types like Terrakion, such as fairy-types, are also appreciated. Glalie itself is very frail, so he's very easy to break through - priority like Bullet Punch and Mach Punch is capable of 2HKOing it, and faster attackers like Keldeo can break through with Secret Sword.
- Mega Latias & Mega Latios:
They have different eye colors! There IS a difference! Latias has green eyes, and Latios has red.
Latias and Latios share the same Mega Evolution for an unknown reason. Although we thought it was a simple mistake in the coding of X & Y, the recent reveal has confirmed that they do indeed share their design. Though Latias and Latios' designs are one and the same, their base stats and movepool are vastly different. Let's begin with Latias. Just a note - both megas retain the same typing and ability.
Latias @ Latiasite - Timid Nature (Levitate. Base stats: 80/100/120/140/150/110.)
EVs: 56 HP / 200 Sp. Attack / 252 Speed
move 1: Dragon Pulse / Draco Meteor
move 2: Hidden Power Fighting
move 3: Healing Wish / Thunderbolt / Psyshock
move 4: Defog
Mega Latias will be able to break out of is supporting role and become a relatively superior special attacker with access to Defog. Dragon Pulse would be the set's main move, but it's weaker than Draco Meteor. On the other hand, using Dragon Pulse does not force a switch. Hidden Power Fighting is necessary, as it puts a dent in Mega Tyranitars who try to Pursuit trap you, and OHKOs Bisharp, its usual counter. Tyranitar also becomes a check, as it cannot live two HP Fightings. The move also hits steel-types which generally have low Sp. Defense. However, it can only live one Sucker Punch, so be wary of this. It's best to eliminate Tyranitar and Bisharp before ever switching out. HP Fighting is pretty much a panic button for Mega Latias. The third slot is your choice and depends on what coverage your team needs - Thunderbolt does good damage to birds, Psyshock is a solid hit on Venu, and Healing Wish provides additional support to the team. Defog is necessary on all sets, freeing up another mon's moveslot.
My opinion on Mega Latias is mixed. It's nice and all, but it still suffers from the same flaws as before its Mega Evolution. As for team options, Pokémon that appreciate Defog support, such as Talonflame, pairs well with this set. Dual Screen support compliments Latias' natural bulk, allowing her to take two Crunch attacks from a Mega Tyranitar. Stealth Rock and Spikes help to wear down its checks / counters as well.
Latios @ Latiosite - Timid Nature (Levitate. Base stats: 80/130/100/160/120/110.)
EVs: 252 Sp. Attack / 4 Sp. Defense / 252 Speed
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Psyshock
move 3: Thunderbolt / Surf
move 4: Defog
Mega Latios' bulk is slightly increased, but is still inferior to his sister's. This means that he will stay the same special attacker he's always been. Draco Meteor, as with Latias, is the nuke of the set, and is highly recommended on Latios over Dragon Pulse. Psyshock can kill Mega Venusaur, one of the bulkiest grass-type mon, in a mere two hits. As far as Azumarill goes, Psyshock actually hits the Assault Vest variant harder, but Thunderbolt hits other sets for more damage than Psyshock. Surf can be used to reliably kill fire, rock, and ground types - Surf can do up to 97% to Gliscor. Defog, like Latios' sister, is necessary to remove entry hazards.
Mega Latios can also run a Dragon Dance set with a Hasty nature. It can use a small amount of physical moves, including Earthquake, Waterfall, and Zen Headbutt. Support for Mega Latios is pretty much the same as Mega Latias, except Latios is more offensively-oriented, so Dual Screen support isn't needed as much. Have its usual counters, Bisharp and Tyranitar (Aegislash as well if playing Ubers), removed before using Latios.

Slowbro's newly-revealed Mega Evolution has been revealed to have increased Defense and Sp. Attack, increasing its already-used set's utility. However, its ability becomes less useful, but it still gets reliable recovery in Slack Off. Calm Mind increases its somewhat disappointing Sp. Defense stat and increases its Sp. Attack. Scald can also score a burn on opposing mon, which is very helpful especially for physical attackers. Slowbro is ready to Mega Evolve!
Slowbro @ Slowbro's Mega Stone - Bold Nature (Shell Armor)
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Defense / 4 Sp. Defense
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Scald
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Slack Off
This is probably, unfortunately, one of the worst new megas. Normal typing isn't that great, because it comes with a common weakness to fighting, and it also has no resistances whatsoever. Fairy typing is added, but its fighting resistance is removed thanks to the normal typing. Like Slowbro, it also loses out on Regenerator, and gains Healer, meaning its ability is literally useless in single battles. Its defenses will increase upon Mega Evolution. Audino is ready to Mega Evolve!
Audino @ Audino's Mega Stone - Bold Nature (Healer)
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Defense / 4 Sp. Defense
move 1: Wish
move 2: Protect
move 3: Toxic
move 4: Dazzling Gleam
Mega Camerupt is looking to be a very cool mega. With Sheer Force and access to Earth Power, Fire Blast, and Rock Slide, it will definitely have its uses. Its speed is decreased, making it great for Trick Room teams. However, it's balanced out by its poor defenses which will be increased upon Mega Evolution, and its 4x weakness to Water and another 2x weakness to Ground. It needs to leave the battlefield should something like Azumarill come up. Camerupt is ready to Mega Evolve!
Camerupt @ Camerupt's Mega Stone - Quiet Nature (Sheer Force)
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Sp. Attack / 4 Sp. Defense
move 1: Fire Blast
move 2: Earth Power
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Roar
Sharpedo's new mega evolution looks to be neat as well. The standard UU cleaner set is reused, and its new ability, Strong Jaw, will boost Crunch and Ice Fang's power by a whopping 50%. Before mega evolving, Sharpedo can use Protect and gather a boost from Speed Boost, which changes upon mega evolving. Sharpedo is ready to Mega Evolve!
Sharpedo @ Sharpedo's Mega Stone - Adamant Nature (Strong Jaw)
EVs: 252 Attack / 4 Defense / 252 Speed
move 1: Protect

move 4: Ice Fang
Gallade's mega evolution comes off as overall disappointing. With not-so-great typing and a bad ability, it seems Gallade will remain mediocre. However, its Attack stat increases, and its decent movepool benefits from this. Drain Punch is an excellent STAB move that regains a bit of Gallade's HP. Zen Headbutt is a very strong physical move, rare among the psychic-type moves. Knock Off is amazing in the current meta so it's an obvious choice. Gallade is ready to Mega Evolve!
Gallade @ Gallade's Mega Stone - Jolly Nature (Inner Focus)
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Attack / 252 Speed
move 1: Zen Headbutt

Rayquaza's gonna be OP. But since it's a mega, we have to get it shiny. Dragon Ascent is its new signature move but we do not know if it's physical or special. If it's a special move, we're gonna go with the first EV spread. If it's physical, we're going with the second one. The rest of the moves just allow Ray to nuke so many things. ExtremeSpeed will be strong, fast priority, and Flamethrower nukes steel types. Earthquake is just slapped on there. I dunno. Rayquaza is a WIP RNG.
Rayquaza @ Rayquaza's Mega Stone - Naive Nature (Delta Stream)
EVs: 4 Attack / 252 Sp. Attack / 252 Speed OR 252 Attack / 4 Sp. Attack / 252 Speed

move 3: Flamethrower
move 4: Earthquake

Signing Up for the Competitive-Shiny Hatching Project
I am accepting 2-3 people to assist with breeding. You will need to either be able to check ESVs, or breed eggs and have someone else check them. People who help out will get the ENTIRE SET OF MEGA EVOLUTIONS for personal use in OR/AS. They will be cloned but they will not be traded outside of the people authorized to get them. If someone trades one of the mon in this collection away, they are no longer authorized to have it.
People authorized to own the set: Cloud.
To sign up, post here or PM me. You can also contact me on IRC if you do not have an account. Please note: we do not know the stats of any of the mon just yet. This means that when OR/AS is released, we may have to rebreed a few shiny mon in order to make them as competitively-viable as we can. Groudon, Kyogre, Latias, and Latios are currently low priority and will be handled at a later date.

ew why are all the shiny primals black
Who's directing the game? I need to have a person to blame for the recently terrible looking shinies.
Though, I think we can both admit that shiny Greninja is just boss.
