Keep a bunch of PP restoring items in your bag and make sure to have a Pokemon that can tank hits and/or knows false swipe. Other than that, it just takes patience and SOS chaining

A strategy I used when hidden ability hunting was using a male sylveon with cute charm, attract, and skill swap to keep the pokemon I was using for chains from running out of PP and struggling against me. Cute charm increases the chances of the opposing pokemon being the opposite gender of your pokemon (vital for breeding abilities, but in your case gender variants or that coveted shinny salazzle). Since your chaining for shinnies instead of abilities cute charm may not be necessary, but I found increasing the odds of a gender you can use attract against helps reduce the amount of hits you need to tank, and the attract status will never be cured on the opponent unless you swap out.

In Gen 7 (Yes, I am aware this is an old post), I would recommend having your team composed of Pokémon with the abilities pressure or intimidate, as they increase the chances of a wild Pokémon calling for backup. Then, encounter the Pokémon you would like a shiny of, lower it's HP to really low and then use an adrenaline orb. The opponent should call an ally. Defeat the ally (unless it's shiny) and stall every turn there isn't an ally. I recommend some really bulky Pokemon, such as Shuckle or uh... Snorlax and Pokémon that can learn false swipe or in the case of the event gen 5 starters and some other ones, hold back. Protect and any move with a similar effect helps work with stall, or in the case of Shuckle, use Contrary, its hidden ability, and spam shell smash until its defense is at max, then its already low attack will be even lower, thus minimizing the chance of killing the original Pokémon.
