Sonic or Mario?

First topic message reminder :

My family has a huge debate about this.. My dad's side prefers Mario but my Mom's side prefers Sonic, i'm torn in the middle here.

But i wanted to ask, which do you prefer? Mario or Sonic?

Mario, because every sonic game ever is a ripoff of a Mario game.
Super Mario Bros. = Sonic the Hedgehog
Mario Kart = Sonic Kart (it exists, I'm serious)
Mario Party= Sonic Shuffle
Mario tennis = Sonic Superstars Tennis

I think I should mention this snake but THEY WERE COMPETING AGAINST EACH OTHER!!! Of course Sega would make games like that there trying to beat Nintendo other stuff like this happens today with stuff like phones!

Mario! Don't even get me started with Mario. Mario is my all time favorite when it comes to classic games. I mean, Mario is whole lot funner than Sonic. Mario and Sonic are both platformers, but the gameplay is a lot different. I'm used to the Mario gameplay over Sonic's; and mainly because I grew up with Mario! And come to think of it? Mario is way more original, right? It came before Sonic. And I'm guessing Mario is more popular than Sonic aslo, but mainly because Mario is so.. awsome! More children recognize Mario than Mickey Mouse. Now that's a straight fact. But I'm not saying Sonic is a BAD game, It's just Mario appeals more to me :D

I prefer sonic over mario.

Mario games are often really boring, and the recent ones often shine with the fact they're meant for 6-year-olds to beat. On the other hand, most sonic games require actual skill, especially to get good times on certain acts, and most sonic engines (excluding fanmade ones) feel much smoother and quicker than mario engines.

Both recent Sonic games and recent Mario games are awful, but they also both have a recent game that shines over the others. (for sonic, it's sonic generations, and for mario, it's NSMBU) While it's true that sonic doesn't have that many spinoff games, (and the ones it does have are just okay) a lot of mario's spinoff games get boring after coming to a certain point. That doesn't mean all of them are bad, though, because I love Strikers charged and Kart Wii.

I don't really prefer to rate games on music, but seeing how that was mentioned, I guess I'll go there. Most mario games have plain music, and they focus a lot on minor remixes of a single track. However, sonic games have music that's sometimes plain, but other times interesting, and it's not usually focused on the remix factor. The borrowed songs (his world, reach for the stars, etc) are also pretty good as well.

also, bias because people say childhood classic

On almost every mario game its always about saving the princes all the time. Although on sonic its about stopping egg man and getting all 7 emeralds. This is a hard choice but i think i would choose..... Mario!

1. I grew up playing on an NES even though I was born around N64/GCN time
2. The originals are good, I have a DS game that has Sonic Originals from Sonic 1 to Knuckles in Sonic 3 andthey are really good; but something like Sonic and the Secret Rings isn't good
