Nah... Better some robot enemies and some new powers. Shoot laser instead of fireballs would be nice.

I agree with the Crash Music, especially the Heavy Machinery or music from the last island of Crash Bandicoot 1. It really makes for mechanical ambience, but not necessarily long and hard levels. Look on Youtube at Blinx the Timesweeper Forge of Time. Plenty of good ideas there, and very well made music.

Does anybody else remember that game?
Anyway, back on topic.
Wall lasers, perhaps? Robots like Tails' on Sonic...big, complicated, laser shooting. Metal bricks and gears background objects sounds like a good idea too.

I'm not sure what context you meant that in, but one other good idea is to use converyor belts to your advantage. Set them moving to the direction that the player is coming from and have NPCs on them, obsatcle type enemies more than anything else like those Rocket Engine Blocks in the Airship NPCs. Stacking them up helps to slow the player down in areas where you may want to use Rinkas or chasing NPCs.

I meant Crash Bandicoot, does anybody remember playing it? I've got it on my computer...(completely off-topic)
A conveyor belt that carries you, while enemies fall from the ceiling and get on the conveyor belt with you.

Oh I thought you were talking about Blinx... but anyway, after playing through the first three Crash games I thought of some more things, like those Pistons from "Piston It Away" that block your path or squash you alive. Maybe even those things where you step on the arrow pad and a blue machine of some sort spits a plasma ball towards you. Even those hot and cold pipes would work as good hazards. The cold ones being slippery and the hot ones either hurt you or kill you completely.

After playing Crash 2, I'm thinking one thing:
Rocket/Jet Pack.
Rocket/Jet Pack.
