The Grand Super Mario Bros. X Guide
Welcome to the Grand Super Mario Bros. X Guide! This is the biggest Super Mario Bros. X Guide there is - it goes over secret level editor tabs, in-game cheat codes, NPC codes, and just about everything else related to the game! I'll explain how to read the guide below.
Okay, to read this guide, just open the spoiler labeled with the subject you want to read about. Each guide goes very in-depth with what you can do in the game. Feel free to post your general Super Mario Bros. X questions here as well.
Super Mario Bros. X Cheat Code Guide
Keep in mind that you cannot save your game after you use cheats. There is one way, however. Simply type redigit is cool (type it all without using the spacebar) while playing the game, after using cheats.
Super Mario Bros. X NPC Code Guide
Don't read this too quickly and think that the NPC Codes categorized under "Fake NPC Codes" are real. If you put them in your .TXT file, they just won't work. Also, wouldn't you agree that the "difficulty" NPC code is a bit farfetched? Alright then, on to the next guide.
The Secret "The Lakitus are throwing Lakitus!" Editor Tab
Seasoned Super Mario Bros. X players are probably familiar with the tab, but I'll bet that most of you here didn't know that. Just, be sure to hit ESCAPE, or else too many Lakitus will come on screen, which will then crash Super Mario Bros. X. That's it for the guides. However, if you're still not sure about anything, check out The Newbie's Guide.

Super Mario Bros. X NPC Code Guide
- Super Mario Bros. X NPC Code Guide:
- SMBX Help File by Blue wrote:Creating Custom NPCs
While the feature is implemented in SMBX, it is not part of the actual program's user interface. All custom NPCs are set just like custom graphics and are done manually by the user creating a file in the game folders. In the folder for the level you wish to use a custom NPC in, you will create a file with notepad (a program that comes with your computer) that is named the same exact as the graphic file of the NPC you wish to alter.
For example: If you wish to make a goomba not able to be stomped, you would do the following.
• Create a new .txt file in the desired levels folder.
• Name the .txt file npc-1
• Open that file and then place the following text in it.
• playerblock=1
• jumphurt=0
• Save the file.
Now in the level in question, the goomba will no longer be able to be stomped. These are the NPC codes that are used to modify custom NPC properties.
Here are the NPC codes:
Graphic-Based NPC Codes
• width=# - how wide the hitbox is in pixels
• height=# - how tall the hitbox is in pixels
• gfxoffsetx=# - how far away the hitbox is from the center of the graphic in pixels
• gfxoffsety=# - how far away the hitbox is from the bottom of the graphic in pixels
• gfxwidth=# - how wide the graphic (sprite) is in pixels
• gfxheight=# - how tall the graphic (sprite) is in pixels
Movement-Based NPC Codes
• speed=# - how fast the NPC moves
• cliffturn=1 - if the NPC will turn around at a cliff
• cliffturn=0 - if the NPC will just fall off at a cliff
• nogravity=1 - if the NPC will not fall to the ground because of gravity
• frames=# - how many frames the NPC has
• framespeed=# - how fast the NPC animates
• framestyle=# - the way the NPC animates*
Miscellanous NPC Codes
• score=# - how many points you get (if any) by killing the NPC
• foreground=1 - if the NPC is placed in the foreground of the level (in front of everything)
Interaction-Based NPC Codes
• playerblock=1 - if the NPC blocks the player
• playerblock=0 - if the NPC doesn't block the player
• playerblocktop=1 - if the player can stand on the NPC
• playerblocktop=0 - if the player can't stand on the NPC (either gets hit or bounches on it)
• npcblock=1 - if the NPC blocks other NPCs
• npcblock=0 - if the NPC doesn't block other NPCs
• npcblocktop=1 - if other NPCs can stand on the NPC
• npcblocktop=0 - if other NPCs can't stand on the NPC
• noblockcollision=1 - if the NPC collides with blocks
• grabside=1 - if you can grab the NPC from the side
• grabside=0 - if you can't grab the NPC from the side
• grabtop=1 - if you can grab the NPC from the top
• grabtop=0 - if you can't grab the NPC from the top
Strength-Based NPC Codes
• jumphurt=1 - if jumping on it hurts the player
• jumphurt=0 - if jumping on it doesn't hurt the player
• nohurt=1 - if the NPC will do no damage
• noyoshi=1 - If Yoshi can't eat the NPC
• nofireball=1 - if the NPC is immune to fireballs
• noiceball=1 - if the NPC is immune to iceballs
Fake NPC Codes
These NPC codes have been claimed to exist, but they really don't.
• nohammer=1 - no hammers can kill the NPC
• nobomb=1 - SMB2 Bombs can't kill the NPC
• noshell=1- the NPC can't be killed by shell
• nospin=1 - the NPC can't be killed by Spin Jump or Raccoon Tail spin
• nosword=1 - the NPC can't be killed by Link's sword
• nopodoboo=1 - the NPC can't be killed by Yoshi Fireballs or Flamethrower ones
• nostatue=1 - can't be killed by Tanooki Statue
• notail=1 - can't be killed by a Raccoon/Tanooki Suit's tail
• nomove=1 - doesn't move (speed=0 would work)
• difficulty=# - how difficult the NPC is (1 is Goomba, 9 is SMB3 Bowser)
• effect=# - what death effect the NPC creates when it dies
Notes:
• Decimals in TXT files make SMBX crash on some people. Don't use them.
• The NPC codes with a "no" beginning don't work with the value 0 on all NPCs.
- The Secret "The Lakitus are throwing Lakitus!" Editor Tab:
- The Secret "The Lakitus are throwing Lakitus!" tab is a well-hidden feature of Super Mario Bros. X v1.3. It has everything that the normal editor couldn't access before, such as enemy projectiles and other miscellaneous objects. Be careful, though - if you close this tab, you'll need to use this method to bring it up again.
Here is a picture of the secret tab:
The way to find this tab was first revealed to beta testers only, but it was soon found by a SMBX user. I'm going to reveal the way to find the tab now.
1. Test the level. You can do this after you finish Step 5, but this way is quicker.
2. Open the NPCs tab.
3. Set Lakitu to "Yes.
4. Change the Game Selection tab to something else.
5. Place the Lakitu into the level.
6. Wait until the Lakitu throws a Lakitu.
7. You'll find that the "Lakitus are throwing Lakitus!" tab has appeared.
8. You're done. Quickly press ESCAPE so that Super Mario Bros. X doesn't crash.
I hope this helped. If you have any questions for me, post them here.
