Cloud's Reviews
10/21/2012, 9:04 am
Hello, and welcome to my review topic. I'll post all of my video game reviews here. The first review will be at the top of the list, latest at the bottom of the list, etc.
This is probably the reason you visited this topic - to read the reviews posted here to see if the new games coming out are any good. I'm going to put the reviews in no specific order. OK, here's my first one(s):
- Scoring Guide:
- Here's my scoring guide. Each rating represents something different, so read carefully.
1/10 - Terrible.
This game is terrible. You should be insulted that someone thought you were dumb enough to even consider buying it. If you ever see a rating of a one, don't even consider buying this game.
2/10 - Bad.
This is a miserable game. If I rate a game 2/10, it's not the game for you.
3/10 - Pretty Bad.
This is the kind of game you buy and then wish you didn't. The developers of games rated 3/10 probably know their game is bad, and they're trying to sell it anyway. If you see a rating of three, heed my warning and don't buy it.
4/10 - Below Average
A game rated 4/10 may have some strengths, but the cons of the game outnumber the pros. Broken gameplay, bad control schemes, glitches, and repetitiveness all contribute to to a score of four.
5/10 - Average
In my point of view, games rated 5/10 are average. The pros and cons of the game are usually about the same. This kind of game isn't worth pre-ordering or rushing out to buy, but you may enjoy the game anyway.
6/10 - Not Bad
Games rated 6/10 are normally lazy sequels that aren't innovative, but don't really do anything wrong.
7/10 - Good
A seven is not average in our eyes. This game will sport a few areas where the game is blatantly let down to the detriment of its overall quality and enjoyment, but it is not average. A seven is still a recommendation, but you might want to consider what I thought let the game down and decide for yourself if it would bother you before buying.
8/10 - Very Good
If I award a game an eight, you can be sure if you like the genre this is a sound buy for you. Minor niggling factors or a badly judged difficulty spike may have made this game fall short of a nine, but it is not to be dismissed lightly.
9/10 - Excellent
A game that scores a nine should be considered a must buy for fans of the genre. Of course if we give a nine to a racing game and you only enjoy RPGs then this probably won't change your mind.
10/10 - Perfect
Of course no game is ever truly perfect, but a score of ten indicates that it is as close as it can get to perfection in the current climate of games. I don't dish this score out lightly, as this would be a genre -efining game that I absolutely feel you should own.
This is probably the reason you visited this topic - to read the reviews posted here to see if the new games coming out are any good. I'm going to put the reviews in no specific order. OK, here's my first one(s):
- Paper Mario: Sticker Star:
- Paper Mario: Sticker Star Review
Paper Mario: Sticker Star is the sequel to Paper Mario, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Super Paper Mario. What's different about this game is that almost everything is represented as real paper. There are stickers pasted everywhere, and just like the stickers are stuck on the walls...this game will be stuck on you for a very long time. The game is available at retail and available as a download on the Nintendo eShop.
Graphics Score: 4/5
The game's paper-like graphics look great. You can tell that they're made from paper, and that's what really makes this game stand out. Throughout the game, you'll see crumpled-up characters and folds in them - signifying that they've been hurt.
Creativity & Innovations Score: 3/5
The game is very creative, seeing as there are many innovations. As I have said, everything's made from paper. This is good and bad, as it may get tiring to "play along" with the logic in Mario's world. I think it is a very creative game, but it doesn't do too much differently from the other Paper Mario games. Luckily for Paper Mario: Sticker Star, the game was built on good gameplay, so that's not really a bad thing.
Music & Sound Score: 5/5
I really need to emphasize this - Paper Mario: Sticker Star's music is great. It sounds good coming from the Nintendo 3DS' headphones especially - so plug some earbuds in to increase the quality of the music. And, earbuds consume less battery power, so...
Control Scheme Score: 4/5
Paper Mario: Sticker Star has a very intuitive control scheme. It was designed so first-time players of the series will get a grasp on them quickly. Paper Mario series veterans should be familiar with the controls right away.
Replay Value Score: 2/5
The game doesn't have any replay value from what I can tell. I'll update this review if I find something.
Total Score: 8/10
If we award a game an eight, you can be sure if you like the genre this is a sound buy for you. Minor niggling factors or a badly judged difficulty spike may have made this game fall short of a nine, but it is not to be dismissed lightly.

This is a decent idea. My only problem is that your opinion doesn't accord to all considerations in the world, something you can't prevent that well, though. You'd need a team to hire to, which is a bit complicated. I'll make sure to check this thread occasionally for new Reviews, but I think what you wrote about 1/10 went unnecessarily far over the top. I'd suggest to compile it like it's a bit less offensive, but that way is just overwhelming. I mean, it's clear that some games are so bad that you'd like to write it like this, but if you really intend to make your Reviews look professional, then this kind of explaination how bad something is, is just ridiculous.

Don't worry about it, Kyo. Almost none of the games I review will score 1/10.

Just imho, but I think the 1/10 rating is or should be reserved for Knuxforum - The RPG because it reeks of stolen and unauthorized gfx while someone from Knux's forum, namely qig, thinks you would be dumb enough to even consider playing it. That and is downright miserable for many reasons including falsely potraying how qig got their login and forum hijacked.

I don't know what's your definition of a killjoy, but I'm definitely not one. Also, I guess you don't really understand the circumstance. I was giving him a tip, and there's no reason to come up with something like this. Please, don't say such stupid things to me like that again, it creates just an unnecessary inconvenience to me. Please, stop being like that.DragonSoul wrote:You are a killjoy no offense

And Cloud, I honestly don't care how frequent you distribute the 1/10 score, the fact is that you exagerrated way too much, which you should prevent if there's a possibility to. I'd only suggest to compile it with other words, but you don't need to if you don't feel like. It's just what I recommend.
And now to ShippoFriend, this is probably off-topic now, but I can't send PMs because I need some more posts first, I ask you here. Are you Inuyasha fan? Coz Shippo, he's one of the coolest characters of Inuyasha. Just because I search someone to talk about with it, I feel so left alone that I'm like, the only one in my environment who totally loves that show.

Maybe he meant "killroy", which is an American popular culture expression that became popular during World War II and is typically seen in graffiti.Kyo wrote:I don't know what's your definition of a killjoy, but I'm definitely not one. Yes, I am an InuYasha fan and especially a Shippo fan. I like Shippo and had dressed up as him years ago.Kyo wrote:And now to ShippoFriend, this is probably off-topic now, but I can't send PMs because I need some more posts first, I ask you here. I know that you're being honest, but that's not only extremely biest, but not true. To start off with, if a game was insulting to some people, but had outstanding gameplay, it would be really stupid to take off more than half of the overall score just because of that. Second, qig hasn't necessarily stolen graphics. He's just used them without permission, if anything. Third, how do you know that it incorrectly displays the forum hijack? For all we know, he could bring Erikmouse in a positive light.ShippoFriend wrote:Just imho, but I think the 1/10 rating is or should be reserved for Knuxforum - The RPG because it reeks of stolen and unauthorized gfx while someone from Knux's forum, namely qig, thinks you would be dumb enough to even consider playing it. That's highly doubtful. He's being used as a boss.

fun fact: most of touhou's bosses, even final bosses, usually become heroines.Cloud wrote:That's highly doubtful. He's being used as a boss.
Besides, we just don't know yet. Just wait till we hear what happens before you make big assumptions like that.
Either way, We've become really offtopic now. I'll continue this in PM if you want to talk about it more.
