Intro to DreamBound (Series and Character Information)
11/29/2016, 4:52 am
Welcome! DreamBound, the official forum comic series, has been running since 2014, with over 130 episodes available. DreamBound (which is commonly referred to as CFA, an abbreviation of its previous name) is unique in that each of its characters are loosely based on forum users. They all have vastly different and exaggerated personalities, and helps add a slight sense of familiarity to the character roster. To make things simpler to draw, most of the characters take the appearance of kirbies (though, they can't fly, inhale, or use copy abilities - it's just an aesthetic "base" for the characters that makes drawing each episode a bit easier), but other than that, all of the dialogue, places, and story events are completely original.
Development on DreamBound began in early 2012. It's gone through several phases, sagas, and reboots, but only just now is it beginning to settle. Here's a basic outline of the series: the three main protagonists (Cloud, Megar, and Switch) live in a ball-shaped Observatory that orbits a purple-and-blue planet called Estrella. Their job is to protect their planet from incoming space debris, and receive funding and assistance from Estrella's government to help them do this. When their world is threatened by the rise of a dark army that wants to drain the universe of its energy, the protagonists are called into action to stop their plan...the problem is, exactly none of the "heroes" are cut out to defend themselves, let alone others. In the series, you can expect bad puns, plot twists, likable villains, and battles that are a bit too intense (but usually end in a curbstomp). Now then, let's go over some of the characters who will appear in the series.
Characters:
Cloud
The founder and maintainer of the aptly-named Cloud's Observatory, a celestial body orbiting planet Estrella. Cloud, along with Megar and Switch, are responsible for protecting their world from space debris, and receive assistance and funding from the government. In contrast to his position of power, Cloud cares deeply about others, and puts their needs before his own - even if this means throwing caution and common sense to the wind. He will do anything to protect those he loves, risking his life if necessary. While he has the best intentions, he secretly lacks the confidence and self-esteem to be an effective leader, and constantly second-guesses himself. In spite of this, he has a positive outlook on life and always believes that things can get better. Although he's difficult to get a read on at times, Cloud's motives never change: he simply wants to make others happy, and be a positive influence in the world.
Megar
As his stylish blue scarf might imply, Megar is a confident, carefree individual who follows no rules but his own. He has something of a mischievous streak, and appears to be incapable of politely addressing others: instead, he relies on his "unique" sense of humor, which can sometimes come off as blunt and insulting. Megar is very secretive and quiet about his past, and becomes a bit hotheaded whenever it is brought up. Despite these quirks, though, he is generally quite friendly and will always do his best to come through when it counts. The most self-assured in the cast, he throws caution to the wind in the knowledge that he can handle whatever the world throws at him without looking back. Megar involved himself in the Observatory because he secretly wishes to preserve nature as well as he possibly can, but in the best way he knows how: by being flashy.
Switch
Switch is the co-founder and original constructor of Cloud's Observatory. He is responsible for the upkeep of its space debris destruction system, and usually spends his free time enhancing the Observatory's functions. Switch is very resourceful, and is always thinking of new and creative ways to utilize technology. What sets Switch apart from the typical "tech guru", though, is his ability to communicate proficiently with others and hold his own in battle. He seems to lack awareness of others, though - he isn't always eager to help, and refuses to talk about serious topics and things that don't interest him. He's also said to be a bit eccentric at times, and seems to become secretly paranoid over the smallest things.
Spectra
A mysterious girl of incredible powers who hails from the first timeline. Spectra was formerly very friendly, caring, and kind-hearted, until she was mixed up in Ciphrus' selfish affairs. When the Miracle Crown defied its master and merged with Spectra in a last-ditch attempt to save itself, she was able to rebel and destroy it, inheriting its amazing strength in the process. In response to the slip-up, Ciphrus reset the world into its second known incarnation, erasing the memories of all of Spectra's friends. Because of this happening, she no longer recognizes the value of an individual, and assumes everyone to be pawns of Ciphrus and nothing more. Spectra is now quiet, nervous, shy, and not at all concerned with the lives of others. She generally doesn't take the time to think things through, and relies on her first instinct - which usually leads to her making hasty decisions with harsh consequences.
Ciphrus
Said to be the most powerful entity in the entire universe, Ciphrus is the big, bad villain of the series. He has complete control over the world - at any point, and without trying, he can recreate the universe into something new, manipulate the minds of its inhabitants, and pull strings to make things go his way. Colloquially known as the "god of banter", everything he does is for the sake of shenanigans and his own entertainment. He takes absolutely nothing seriously and often aggravates others by how casual he is in spite of his role as a creator.
New episodes of DreamBound will return starting in January 2017. As new characters are revealed in the story, they'll be added to this page!
